Govind, thank you and thanks to your extended family for such a very pleasant stay at your Jodhpur Guest House. What I loved most about staying with you was your warm friendliness and that comfortable feeling of staying with family friends in a real Indian home. (Having done that several times in other cities, I can make the judgement...). Also, thank you and Mr. Virendra so much for booking the room at Pushkar Palace. Finally, the driver you arranged for my road trip was very pleasant, respectful, and helpful. It is a pleasure to have him. Best wishes and hope to see you all again soon! |

Back in the cold wintertime in Switzerland I cheer up my mind with the remembrance of my India-trip with you both. The lively colors, the kindness of the people we met, the visits of the impressive temples and palaces gave me an unforgettable first impression of your marvellous country. Last but not least, a great "Thank you!", dear Govind, dear Virendra, for you taking care of everyone of us and doing your best to make this trip a most enjoyable experience for us. Two weeks after returning from our 3-week-tour through Rajasthan a lot of impressions and wonderful memories come back looking at my pictures, tour descriptions and my personal notes. Thank you Govind and Virendra for organizing so well this great trip! Besides visiting many interesting cities, countrysides, splendid palaces, castles and temples of the different religions you also gave us the opportunity to get to know the friendly people of your country, their culture and way of life. We did a lot of things that tourists usually don't do. I think here especially of the train ride from Delhi to Udaipur, staying with families in the desert, visiting different cratsmen families producing lovely handicraft things, even having our own workshops, stopping for lunch in small road "restaurants" meant mainly for local people, attending different puppet shows and folklore performances and so on. This is really the way I like travelling! You were so concerned about our well being and did your best to make us feel comfortable and happy, thanks a lot! Our driver and his assistant did a wonderful job too. I really hope to get back to India. |

Rajastan, das Abenteuer Der Oranisator, Max Lehmann aus Biel, garantierte uns eine Reise in dieses Riesenland, die nicht nur ausgetretene Pfade abspult, sondern neben den zweifellos grossartigen Tempeln, Schlössern und Palästen sollten wir auch Einblick in das Leben der Bevölkerung kriegen und uns ein Bild machen können, wie eine Milliarde Leute oft auf engem Raum zusammen leben können. Bei der Ankunft in Delhi wurden wir von unseren einheimischen Führern Govind Rathore, dem Organisator, und seinem Freund Virendra, dem Ausführenden, aufs Herzlichste empfangen. Beide sprechen ein klares, verständliches Englisch, was in Indien nicht immer selbstverständlich ist. Nach einer kurzen Einführungszeit in Delhi bestiegen wir noch gleichentags den Nachtzug nach Udaipur, einer kleineren aber grossartigen Königsstadt an einem See mit überwältigenden Palästen und Tempeln. Von hier aus stand uns ein Privatbus zur Verfügung bis am Schluss der Reise. Schlag auf Schlag folgten die verschieden- artigsten Besuche wie der Rattentempel, der unvergessliche Kamelmarkt in Pushkar, wo sicher tausend Kamele und Pferde angeboten wurden, drei Nächte in äusserst komfortablen Zelten, dann wieder in Schlössern von Maharadjas oder auf einem Dach unter freiem Himmel in der Wüste, der Aufstieg zum Amber Fort bei Jaipur auf einem Elefanten, ein fürstliches Nachtessen auf der Schlossterrasse von Jodhpur und natürlich das sicher zu Recht als achtes Weltwunder geltende Mausoleum Taj Mahal in Agra. Es braucht etwas Mut, sich auf die Strassen Indiens zu wagen, selbst nur als Mitfahrer. Das ewige Gehupe braucht eine rechte Portion Angewöhnung, doch schliesslich vertraut man dem Fahrer. Dass das Essen anders schmecken wird, war zu erwarten. Jeder Indienfahrer erinnert sich an Durchfall, Bauchschmerzen etc. und schleppt eine gut dotierte Apotheke mit. Selbst in unserer Gruppe klagten Teilnehmer ein oder zweimal über kleine Uebel, doch Govind sorgte sich mit geradezu mütterlicher Anteilnahme um die Patienten. Er hatte allerdings nicht sehr viel zu tun, denn der Grossteil der Gruppe war bis am Schluss wohlauf, obschon wir uns oft am Strassenrand verköstigten und die Küche mit etwas scheelen Augen betrachteten. Wer die paar Grundregeln befolgt, wird kaum mehr krank werden. Auch Besorgnisse bezüglich Malaria sind nicht angebracht. Für uns ungewöhnlich ist das Gedränge der Menschenmassen in jeder grösseren Stadt. Da vom Herbst bis in den Frühling meistens angenehme Temperaturen herrschen, spielt sich das Leben meist auf der Strasse oder in winzigen offenen Läden ab. Einzig die heiligen Kühe, die überall herumlaufen und beim Abfallvertilgen auch auf Karton oder Plastic nicht verzichten, lassen sich in keiner Weise aus der Ruhe bringen. Recht lästig werden oft die teilweise sehr aufdringlichen Verkäufer. Wenn wir kaum befürchten müssen, bestohlen zu werden, so wird jeder Tourist irgendwann übers Ohr gehauen. Auch dann sind die Preise immer noch so günstig, dass wir zuerst gar nicht erfassen, dass wir oft ein Vielfaches des üblichen Preises bezahlen, doch lernt man schnell und kennt bald einmal die gängigen Angebote. Indien ist natürlich gemessen an unserem Niveau äusserst günstig und Handarbeit wird völlig unterbezahlt. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass man mit leichtem Gepäck hinreist und vollbeladen zurückkommt. Drei Wochen vergehen wie im Flug und doch ist man am Ende einigermassen erschöpft aber unvorstellbar reicher an Eindrücken und Erfahrungen und sicher lockt es viele Teilnehmer, auch weitere Teile dieses Subkontinentes zu entdecken. After having been rather sceptical to visit this country, I am very pleased that I did it. The three weeks through Rajasthan were great. Govind and Virendra, you were the best, most open minded guides I can imagine. You were so much concerned about our well beeing, about showing us so much of your country: the different landscapes, the beautiful, warm and friendly people, the colours,the odours, the culture! You showed us places, that tourists usually don't see. Four weeks later I often think about this trip and a lot of souvenirs come back to my mind. I can highly recommend this journey. Thank you very much. |

Lieber Govind, jetzt bin ich schon mehr als eine Woche daheim und ich träume fast jede Nacht von Indien!Ein kleiner Teil von meiner Seele ist in Indien geblieben.Ich war und bin so tief berührt von den freundlichen Menschen,dem wunderschönen Land,dass ich am liebsten in's nächste Flugzeug steigen und nach Indien fliegen würde!!!
